Chuanhai Cao, PHD
Head of Research
Dr. Chuanhai Cao is a highly esteemed researcher who has focused his career in biomedical sciences, specifically in the field of immunology and its application to neurodegenerative diseases. Dr. Cao has developed robust expertise with an educational background rooted in Biostats & Epidemiology and Medical Virology from Tianjin Medical University and further postdoctoral training in Molecular Biology, Cancer Biology, and Immunology at the University of South Florida. His pioneering work includes the invention of vaccines for Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases, boasting numerous patents and over 100 peer-reviewed articles.
With a primary focus on the role of the immune system in neurodegenerative diseases, Dr. Cao and his research team have dedicated their efforts to understanding how immunomodulation can delay the onset of these neurological diseases. Dr. Cao holds more than ten patents for Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson's disease treatment and has published over 70 papers in this field. Notably, three of his Alzheimer's-related discoveries have completed phase I clinical trials or are ready for clinical trial. He has also served as a reviewer for many journals and NIH grants, including Alzheimer’s and Chronic Dysfunction and Integrative Neurodegeneration clinical trials. Notably, he has served as study section chair for the “Behavior and Social Research on Immigration and Aging.”
Through his contribution to science, Dr. Cao has not only advanced our understanding of neurodegenerative diseases but has also equipped the scientific community with innovative tools and methodologies to continue this vital work. Beyond his research, Dr. Cao's academic career is more than 20 years of teaching, first as an Assistant Professor and today as a tenured Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Taneja College of Pharmacology at the University of South Florida. His professional memberships, awards, and recognition, including the Excellence in Innovation Award from the National Academy of Inventors, illustrate a respected and influential presence in the scientific community.
